The Biden Regime’s Epic Betrayal of Israel - Robert Spencer

Biden and his henchmen move to mollify their far-Left base.

The ceasefire charade is over for now, Hamas has had a chance to regroup, and the Israelis are determined now to finish the job and destroy the threat from the bloodthirsty jihad group forever. The Biden regime, however, is telling them to ease up, and let Hamas live to kill more Israeli civilians on another day. In light of the heavy pressure the regime has been receiving from its far-Left base, and its anti-Israel stance from the beginning, this is no surprise.

The Washington Post, always a reliable Biden regime mouthpiece, on Wednesday quoted unnamed regime apparatchiks declaring that “a different kind of campaign has to be conducted in the south,” and that the Israelis “can’t do what they did in the north in the south.” Barely concealing its glee, the Post taunted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with his own determined words, quoting them in the context of the Biden regime’s statements to the contrary. The Post quoted Netanyahu as saying: “We continue until the end, until victory…nothing will stop us,” while making it clear that Israel’s foremost ally, and the only nation that prevents the Jewish state from being completely isolated on the world stage, was going to do exactly that: stop Israel from destroying Hamas.

White House national security spokesman John Kirby made it explicit: “We’ve been clear with the Israelis that we don’t support them moving forward with operations in the south unless they have a plan to deal with the now-increased level of civilians there.” He said nothing about how Hamas deliberately stages attacks from civilian areas in order to provoke retaliatory fire that it can use for propaganda purposes.

Old Joe Biden himself recently said that the idea of placing conditions on military aid to Israel in the future was a “worthwhile thought.” Biden regime Secretary of State Antony Blinken moved toward doing just that during a Thursday meeting with Netanyahu. According to Al Jazeera, which, like the WaPo, could barely contain its delight at the whole thing, Blinken “assured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he could count on US support.” That support, however, came with a caveat: “But, he said that such support requires Israel’s ‘compliance with international humanitarian law,’ and ‘urged Israel to take every possible measure to avoid civilian harm,’ the US Department of State said. To prevent a further significant increase in civilian casualties, Blinken ‘stressed the imperative of accounting for humanitarian and civilian protection needs in southern Gaza before any military operations there,’ the department said.”

The warning itself was offensive, as Blinken doubtless knows that Israel does not actually violate international humanitarian law in its military operations, and already takes every possible measure to avoid civilian harm. Several years ago, the British Colonel Richard Kemp investigated the IDF’s conduct and concluded that during Operation Cast Lead, the Israeli defensive action against Hamas and other jihad groups in Gaza in December 2008 and January 2009, “the IDF did more to safeguard the rights of civilians in a combat zone than any other army in the history of warfare.” Kemp wrote in May 2023 that “the IDF which is known by all Western military commanders to be more effective than any other force in the world in preventing the deaths of civilians in enemy territory.” Yet Israel is fighting against a foe that is determined to maximize civilian casualties; Blinken and his masters should be blaming Hamas, not Israel, for civilian deaths.

The meaning of Blinken’s admonition, however, was unmistakable: Israel cannot count on further support from the Biden regime, particularly as the establishment media continues to trumpet Hamas propaganda about alleged Israeli atrocities. The Biden regime is putting this pressure on Israel because it is desperately trying to shore up its far-Left base, which is revolting (yes, in both senses of the word). Early in November, Nihad Awad of the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), put Old Joe on notice: “The language that President Biden and his party understand is the language of votes in the 2023 elections and our message is: No cease-fire, no votes.” Awad was echoing the ever-winsome Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Ramallah), who had asserted several days before that “Joe Biden supported the genocide of the Palestinian people….The American people won’t forget. Biden, support a cease-fire now. Or don’t count on us in 2024.”

Oh, you missed the genocide of the Palestinian people? That’s only because it never happened. And the ceasefire Tlaib and Awad wanted has come and gone, but the cries for a new one will begin as soon as Israel resumes significant operations in Gaza.

And so Old Joe and his accomplices have to choose: abandon Israel, or say goodbye to political power in 2024. They’re choosing 2024. Israel is on its own.
