I expect little of the Bidenites when it comes to Israel, but I have to admit, I never expected this: “US reveals UN ceasefire proposal, diminishes chance of Rafah op – report,” Jerusalem Post, March 16, 2024:

Israeli political officials have received an updated outline of the ceasefire proposal that the US will present to the UN, which allegedly focuses on an “immediate and lasting ceasefire,” Maariv reported on Saturday.

According to the report, the new draft has more severe language regarding a ground operation in Rafah, claiming that conditions on the ground wouldn’t allow it to happen.

An “immediate and lasting ceasefire” meant only one thing: that the Biden administration had taken the side of the terrorists of Hamas, by insisting that the State of Israel not be allowed to achieve its goal of destroying the terror group as a military threat. There are now six Hamas battalions — four in Rafah, and two in the center of Gaza — that are still intact. If the “immediate ceasefire” that the US proposed to the UN Security Council had passed, Israel would have faced enormous pressure to halt its campaign. But fortunately, the government and people of Israel would likely have ignored such a resolution, and continued fighting until Hamas is crushed.

In the event, it was Russia and China who came to the rescue of Israel, although they did so not out of a recognition of Israel’s right to defend itself, but apparently only to strike at the U.S.: “Russia, China veto US-led UN resolution on Gaza ceasefire,” by Daphne Psaledakis and David Brunnstrom, Reuters, March 22, 2024:

March 22 (Reuters) – The United Nations Security Council on Friday turned down a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an Israel-Hamas hostage deal after Russia and China vetoed the measure proposed by the United States.

The resolution, on which Algeria also voted no and Guyana abstained, called for an immediate and sustained ceasefire lasting roughly six weeks that would protect civilians and allow for the delivery of humanitarian assistance.

Eleven of the 15 council members voted for the resolution, but Russia and China vetoes stopped its passage….

Friday was the first time Washington had backed a text that came up for a vote with the word “ceasefire” in it during the war in Gaza, reflecting a toughening of the Biden administration’s stance toward Israel.

Earlier in the five-month-old war, the U.S. was averse to the word ceasefire and vetoed measures that included calls for an immediate ceasefire.

“The vast majority of this council voted in favor of this resolution, but unfortunately Russia and China decided to exercise its veto,” U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield told the Security Council.

She accused Russia and China of vetoing the resolution for “cynical” and “petty” reasons. She said they opposed it simply because it was penned by the U.S. and criticized both countries for not condemning Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack on Israel….

It is good that the resolution did not pass, but that does not erase the actions of the Biden administration. I consider this Bidenite resolution, that did not pass only because China and Russia vetoed it, a Great Betrayal. And there is now a Second Great Betrayal by the Bidenites at the UN. When a new resolution was voted on at the Security Council on March 25, that demanded an “immediate ceasefire” with no time limit, our U.N. ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield did not veto it, as she should have, but abstained. The resolution did call for the release of the hostages, but it is clear that that demand is becoming, for the UNSC members, ever less important than the call for what will almost certainly turn into a “permanent ceasefire.”

America should have vetoed it, but the Bidenites have had it with Benjamin Netanyahu — and with the people of Israel, who overwhelmingly agree with him on the need for the IDF to invade Rafah and “finish the job” of dismantling Hamas — who dares to defy their warning not to invade Rafah. He has said that invasion is coming, with or without American support. The IDF will invade Rafah, and in a few weeks, not months, we will see not the “catastrophic results” in Rafah that Kamala Harris predicts, but a victory like that just achieved in a matter of days at the Al-Shifa Hospital, where more than 170 terrorists were killed, and of the 800 suspects it has seized at the hospital, the IDF has identified 500 of them as belonging to Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

I am reminded of what the Emperor Maximilian said to his valet, just before he was shot by a firing squad: “You said it would not come to this. You see that you were wrong.” I now apply that melancholy phrase to myself: About the Bidenites I did not think it would come to this. I see that I was wrong.
