His tenure as the platform's leader has been tumultuous.
Twitter CEO Elon Musk plans to step down from his position once he finds someone else to take his place.
In a Tuesday evening post on the site, Musk announced his plans, saying he would retain responsibilities for maintaining much of the platform's supporting technologies after resigning as CEO.
"I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will just run the software & servers teams," he wrote in reply to an earlier poll he conducted as to whether he should resign from his position with company.
"Should I step down as head of Twitter?" he asked. "I will abide by the results of this poll." With roughly 17.5 million votes cast, Twitter users voted 57.5% in favor of Musk stepping down.
His tenure as the platform's leader has been tumultuous, with Musk overseeing the implementation of a paid-verification system Twitter Blue and his systemic release of internal documents detailing the previous management's politically motivated content moderation practices and collusion with federal entities.
Musk has also lifted permanent suspensions on numerous conservative-leaning accounts and promised to curtail the platform's censorship practices, which has drawn ire from the Left over concerns that his policies would lead to a rise in online hate speech.
