The UN has admitted that it does not always independently confirm every detail before publication of its reports.
There is a saying that “a lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes.” In other words, false information can spread much faster than hard facts, and sometimes, by the time the most accurate details or corrections are shared, the wrong story has already reached many people and caused great confusion.
There is absolutely no question in my mind that the Israel-haters rely on this dictum to support their war against the Jewish state.
Let’s count some of the dumbest big lies that have been pushed over the years by these dishonest critics of Israel. “Genocide” is the grandest of them all. The term first appeared in Soviet sources, although it has found new life since October 7, 2023. This itself is ironic—Hamas invaded Israel on that day because they sought to, and indeed did, slaughter Jews, following the dictates of their radical religious beliefs, yet many of their supporters now seek to project their own genocidal crime onto Israel. Needless to say, Israel has not, and never has, committed genocide.
Then there is the “apartheid” slur. This charge is especially stupid because “apartheid” involves race, and there are no racial divides in this struggle. Further, it ignores the fact that Israel is a democracy where its Druze, Jewish, Muslim, and Christian Arab citizens are all fully equal under the law, including the right to vote. Israeli Arabs disproportionately work in the high-status medical and pharmaceutical fields in Israel, which could never happen under an apartheid system. Another defamatory claim that was shattered recently was that Israel was “starving” the Arabs of Gaza, which was exposed by, of all things, a UN survey.
This means, of course, that it is time for the haters to move on and level their next fake claim—that Palestinian Arabs are suffering from a vast eruption of Israeli “settler violence.”
The “settlers” in question here are Israeli Jews who live beyond the green armistice line of 1949, in the lands known as Samaria, Judea, and/or Jerusalem. Once again, this labeling is ironic and another example of projection, because the Palestinian Arabs—who originated in Arabia before conquering the entire Middle East—are slandering the Jews—who originated in Judea, hence the name—as “settlers” for wanting to move back into Judea after being exiled from it by the Arabs.
Like all the prior big lies being promoted, the Israel-haters rely on rigged statistics to make their case for increasing Israeli “settler violence.” In this case, these statistics are collected by the UN—never known as a pro-Israel entity—which claims that from 2016 through 2021, there were 6,285 incidents of “settler violence” against Palestinian Arabs. The UN defines “settler-related violence” as incidents involving violence, intimidation, or property damage carried out by “settlers,” or against “settlers,” as well as incidents involving other Israeli civilians in Judea and Samaria. Of course, this means that these numbers include incidents where a Palestinian Arab attacked a Jew or his property, which makes little sense considering what we are supposed to be measuring.
The UN has also admitted that it does not always independently confirm every detail before publication, which makes the numbers even more unreliable.
As it turns out, multiple studies by the Regavim Movement and the Kohelet Policy Forum have demonstrated that the UN statistics are biased. They have found that while there are some instances of Jewish violence directed towards Palestinian Arabs, these incidents are dwarfed by the number of acts of violence coming from Palestinian Arabs against Jews. They have also found that the number of Jewish violent attacks is not particularly large. So, once again, fake news peddled by the Israel-haters about Israel is shown to be defamatory.
But based on history alone, we already should have known this.
The “settler violence” smear against the Jewish state has traveled halfway around the world, to the U.S., where prominent U.S. politicians are already staking out their positions against this imaginary problem. Unfortunately, however, as is always the case, the truth of the matter is still putting on its shoes, so full acceptance that this big lie is false will have to wait for a later date.
And by then, the Israel-haters will have moved on to their next big lie.
