We, the people of Israel, stand in defiance of all our enemies. We do not live in fear.
It is unclear when the current wave of knife terrorism will end. The winds of radical Islam are fueling the flames around us. Fanatical young Arabs are convinced that the time of a new caliphate has arrived and the Jews will soon meekly surrender.
But, as in the past, the Arabs do not understand the secret of the Jewish people's survival over thousands of years. They are unable to comprehend our heroism and the Hasmonean spirit of freedom that beats within our souls. Our unique nature got us through even the toughest of times during our 2,000-year exile from our land. We brave Jews -- men and women, young and old -- have never loosened our grip on the flag of freedom.
In the heart of the desert, where blood feuds cheapen human life, we re-established our independence and fulfilled the vision of the prophets. We liberated Jerusalem and the Land of Israel and we will continue to fight relentlessly for our right to live here as a free people in our ancient homeland.
Even though the terror wave is still ongoing, the people of Israel will undoubtedly emerge victorious. Our soldiers and police officers, both on-duty and off-duty, have with their displays of courage and determination once again proved that it is impossible to break or bend our people. We have shown this throughout the course of our heroic struggle with Arab terrorism, which has accompanied us since the Zionist movement planted its first tree in Israel and declared that the Jewish people had returned home.
Our security forces are operating with resoluteness and assertiveness. Every recent attack has ended with the killing or the capture of the terrorist. But the true strength of our society has been revealed by how civilians have gone on with their daily lives as normal. This has been an impressive display of national resilience and poise. We, the people of Israel, stand in defiance of all our enemies. We do not live in fear. One can understand the concerns of parents in Jerusalem and the pioneers who drive on the roads of Judea and Samaria, but, nevertheless, life is continuing and the spirit of our people is steadfast.
While media outlets and social networking websites sometimes produce hysteria, a vast majority of the Israeli public refuses to despair. We know that, as always, we will win. A new page will soon be added to the history books that will note another proud victory for Israel.
Let us modify a famous Natan Alterman poem to fit our times: "And it is not in vain, my brother, that you have plowed and built Jerusalem, Beit El, Neria and Ariel. ... We will not fall back, for there is no other way. No nation would retreat from the trenches of its life."
The entire Land of Israel will be rebuilt and prosper. The trenches of our lives are dug here, and here we will remain for all eternity.
