Leaked ISIS documents reveal Syrian leader cooperated with the brutal terror group for years.
The regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad cooperated extensively with the Islamic State (ISIS) terror organization, leaked ISIS documents revealed on Monday.
According to a report by Sky News, files from the ISIS terror organization showed that despite claims the embattled Syrian regime was actively fighting the Islamist group, the two in fact colluded together for years.
The documents revealed that the recapture of the ancient city of Palmyra, hailed as a turning point in the war against ISIS, was in fact part of a long-standing agreement between ISIS and the Assad regime. Rather than being the result a military victory, the transfer of control of Palmyra was a peaceful operation.
Not only did the Syrian regime collude with ISIS, the government apparently purchased oil from the terror group.
On the battlefield, ISIS and the Syrian army coordinated their actions, with the Syrian government giving ISIS notice ahead of major military actions.
Former ISIS members backed up the claim, stating that Syria and ISIS had arrangements in place for trade and to coordinate military activity.
The ISIS documents also revealed a chilling detail of the terror group’s efforts to extend its reach beyond the Middle East and strike targets in the US and Europe.
According to the report, ISIS preparations for attacks like the Paris massacre and Brussels bombings began much earlier and are far more advanced than was previously believed.
