Welcome to the Unholy Alliance's politics of personal destruction - new and improved.

No doubt about it, we are witnessing a revival of what journalist Eli Lake calls American nativism. But this time, instead of the expression of a right-wing “America First” movement, it’s coming from radical leftist-Islamist women like Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Linda Sarsour. It used to be a right-wing phenomenon; now it’s largely on the Left. 

When politicians fail to win support for their policies, they demonize their opponents, unleashing what we call the “politics of personal destruction.” When the new nativists talk policy, they generally make fools of themselves. They are instead intent on destroying individuals they dislike. This time it’s Reps. Jerrold Nadler and Adam Schiff -- armed with their made-up accusations, their long lists of intended victims, with Special Counsel Robert Mueller and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Schiff and Nadler playing the Perry Masons of our day.

Today's script sees Adam Schiff, the Hollywoodian, claiming to have evidence of collusion between President Trump’s crowd and the Russians. It’s fanciful, and it even sounds fanciful. He thinks that a phony letter to Donald Trump, Jr. somehow proves tricky—indeed, criminal—behavior by then-candidate Donald the elder. Here’s Schiff emoting on Meet the Press:

I think there is direct evidence in the e-mails from the Russians through their intermediary offering dirt on Hillary Clinton as part of what is described in writing as the Russian government effort to help elect Donald Trump. They offer that dirt. There is an acceptance of that offer in writing from the president's son Don Jr. and there is overt acts in furtherance of that. That is the meeting at Trump Tower…

But there was no dirt and no deal. It’s all nonsense, but Schiff uses it to slime the president, and he does not hesitate to use rumor for the same purpose:

We're also looking at persistent allegations that the Russians have been laundering money through the Trump Organization. I don't know that that's true. But if it is, again, it's a profound compromise of this president.

Schiff doesn’t even claim it’s true. He just lobs it out there. He did the same thing on tv with yours truly one night, when he evinced great concern over General Michael Flynn’s “softness” on the Russians. He couldn’t be bothered to read Flynn’s best-selling book The Field of Fight, which describes Putin as an “enemy.” I suppose the slime was too good to check.

That’s Schiff, the new witch hunter. True to form, he’s just hired Daniel Goldman, a former U.S. attorney and recently a legal “analyst” for NBC, to run the investigations for the House Intel Committee. As Daily Caller reporter Chuck Ross tells us:

As a pundit, Goldman has made his thoughts about Trump clear, repeatedly asserting, without evidence, that Trump and his campaign associates colluded with the Russian government to influence the 2016 election.

It’s a perfect hire. Two guys who don’t give a hoot about the truth. But Schiff takes the cake:

Russian conspiracy theorist @RepAdamSchiff attacked @DevinNunes for “overstating the significance” of Bruce Ohr’s interactions with Chris Steele. He also implied Ohr had nothing to do with counterintelligence work. Yeah, neither of those are true.

All in all, the witch-hunting is worse now than ever -- because there is so much more corruption among the law enforcement agencies, the intelligence community, and the lawyers.

Alas, I fear it’s only just underway.
